Suit Direct FAQs
Introducing the Suit Direct FAQ. We love to give tips for buying a new suit, and there’s no better place to get your ideal tailor style men’s three piece suit or two piece suit for those special occasions – but you’re bound to have questions…
Here you can ask questions about men’s suits and tailoring with one of the UK’s fastest growing retailers of menswear and formal clothing.
So, what do you need to know when suiting up?
What is a three piece suit?
A three piece suit is composed of a men's suit jacket, waistcoat and trousers. This is the ideal suit for weddings and formal dress codes.
What is the difference between a two piece suit and a three piece suit?
A two piece suit, otherwise known as a lounge suit, features a blazer and trousers with no waistcoat – a more relaxed silhouette for a more laid back environment.
What is the difference between a single breasted and double breasted suit?
The key is in the jacket – a single breasted jacket fastens in the middle, while a double breasted fastens around the body with buttons across the front. This creates a sharper, more flattering fit, and a more formal profile.
What fit suits are there?
Suit Direct stocks a vast range of men’s suits in all kinds of sizes.
Skinny fit suits are a trendy, fashionable fit – ideal for flattering your shape, with a dramatic slim shoulder, waist and chest and narrow hem.
Slim fit - A comfortable fit that follows the contours of the body, with a narrow tapered waist and hem.
Athletic fit – Built to flatter the more muscular frame, with men's blazers that are generous through the chest, shoulder and bicep, with a smooth taper at the waist.
Tailored fit –A traditional style, inspired by decades of menswear that gently tapers to promote a masculine, formal profile.
Regular fit suits are comfortable and unrestrictive, with more free movement and comfort across the shoulders, waist and chest. They’re generally straight cut with less tapered profiling.
What is the difference between a slim fit and a skinny fit?
A skinny fit is generally more figure hugging – with a tighter, narrower profile.
Is an athletic fit suit the same as a slim fit suit?
An athletic fit suit is built differently to a slim fit, with more room across the muscular areas of the body such as the shoulders, chest and biceps.
What is a tailored suit?
A tailored suit is as the name suggests – tailored to ‘suit’ the wearer. With a comfortable fit that follows the natural body contours, a tailored fit suit is ideal for a formal dress code.
What is the best way to store a suit?
Suits should be kept hanging as often as possible, preferably in a protective suit bag. Our suit bags by Jeff Banks are particularly popular amongst our customers and serve perfectly!
What is black tie?
Black tie is a dress code for the more formal occasion, based upon the contrast of blacks upon whites. It’s rather strict, with a focus on a black dinner jacket, black trousers, white shirt and that all-important black tie.
Is a tuxedo a suit?
It’s a loaded question – a tuxedo or dinner suit is really a suit style all of its own. This traditional black tie suit typically features satin lapels, though this has been muddied with the development of more modern styles and hybrids. All tuxedos are suits, but not all suits are tuxedos!
